The Pinard Pediatric Stethoscope is a traditional, non-electronic diagnostic tool designed to listen to heart and lung sounds in newborns and young children. Made with a hollow, funnel-shaped body—typically crafted from aluminum, stainless steel, or plastic—it operates on the principle of direct sound conduction. The broad end is placed against the child’s chest or back, while the narrow end is held to the examiner’s ear.
This stethoscope is especially useful in environments where electronic devices may not be practical or available. Its design offers excellent acoustic sensitivity for detecting heart tones and breath sounds in small patients, and it remains a reliable option in neonatal care, pediatric clinics, rural healthcare settings, and home visits.
Lightweight and easy to sanitize, the Pinard stethoscope is also commonly used in educational settings to teach auscultation skills.
