The McIvor Mouth Gag is a widely used self-retaining surgical instrument designed to hold the mouth open and depress the tongue during procedures involving the oral cavity, oropharynx, and tonsillar region. It is especially useful in tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP), and other ENT surgeries.
The instrument consists of a rigid metal frame with side cheek retractors and an adjustable tongue blade that can be interchanged based on patient size and surgical needs. The tongue blade curves downward and is positioned to depress the tongue, allowing for an unobstructed view of the surgical field. A ratcheting locking mechanism allows the gag to be fixed in an open position, keeping both hands of the surgeon free for the procedure.
Made from high-grade surgical stainless steel, the McIvor Gag is reusable, autoclavable, and available with various sizes of tongue blades to accommodate pediatric and adult patients.
