The DP 9–11 Darby Perry Chisel Scaler is specially crafted for periodontal use—ideal for removing tenacious calculus deposits, particularly in deep pockets and along the lingual surfaces of lower front teeth. It combines two complementary chisel blades:
-
Large curved blade: Efficient for broader areas with heavy deposits.
-
Short‑bent blade: Offers precision in tight anatomy and interproximal spaces.
Constructed from high-grade tempered stainless steel, the instrument retains sharpness long-term. It comes with a choice of handle styles—solid, hollow, octagonal, or ergonomic—for improved grip and tactile feedback during scaling.
Clinically, this scaler is used after ultrasonic scaling or for targeted removal in periodontal pockets, particularly those affected by periodontitis. It relies on a push stroke technique to dislodge calculus “bridges” on anterior mandibular teeth.
-
Target area: Primarily for lower anterior teeth (mandibular incisors & canines).
-
Technique: Push stroke aimed at breaking hard calculus into removable fragments.
-
Post-ultrasonic use: Excellent for residual deposits post scaling and root planning procedures.
